TOP TEN THINGS KIDS WANT FROM THEIR DADS:
-YOUR TIME AND ENERGY- Its worth more than you know. Volunteer in the classroom or as a coach on the field. It will make a huge difference in their lives.
-BOUNDARIES- Believe it or not, kids want to have rules and boundaries. Yes, they will push them...over and over again...holding your ground shows them you care.
-KINDNESS, LOVE AND COMPASSION TO THEIR MOTHER- Whatever your situation is married or divorced , kids want their parents to love and respect each other. It provides them with security, and enforces bonds of trust.
-ACTION!- Kids want to see you put your words and morals in motion. Remember, they are always watching you. Watching usually more than listening.
-RESPONSIBILITY- Give it to them. If you are just getting started, start small and work them up to bigger roles and responsibilities in the family. An allowance is a great tool...but not always necessary.
-CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISISM- Positive correction does more, and provides better short and long term results than negative critisim. Remember, in their own way, most kids ultimately want to be a pleasing and approved of by their parents.
-ONE ON ONE TIME- If you have a big or busy family, one on one time is a great way to build intimate bonds with your child. Take them to get a burger or an ice cream, while the rest of the family stays at home. A little goes a long way.
-LAUGHTER- It is important for kids to laugh and have fun. Don't forget this when life gets stressful. Kids don't understand adult stress in an adult world. Lighten up Francis.
-TRUST- Showing your kids early on that they can trust you, will allow them the freedom to come to you later in life, with really difficult issues.
-HUGS- Don't forget there is nothing better to a kids than a big bear hug from their Dad!
