Moms on the Move & Women in the Workplace

(BUILT IN) (Icons/Graphics) Mom_Zen_Juggling.jpgWe want to support and acknowledge moms. Each of you is making a difference whether you are a stay at home mom, working mom, or volunteer mom. When you become a mom, it is often easy to forget the side of you that is also a woman who may have had a career, hobbies and education before you became a parent. As a mom we spend our days multi-tasking and juggling. We are now the CEO of our households. Our job description includes diapers, dishes, carpooling, and an endless amount of laundry. Overnight you go from being a woman with style to someone who is happy to just get a shower. Being a mom is wonderful but it is also important to have a sense of yourself outside of your family.

This page is for you. Give us feedback on what you would like to see by emailing us. Check back often because this page will change monthly. Nominate a mom for our "Mom In The Spotlight."

Tips for the Working Mom

Don't Just Dream, Take Action

Networking...

  • Use the time you spend dropping your children off at school, at the playground, beach etc. to work on brainstorming for your business by doing informal networking with people you happen to be sitting near who might be in your target market - you'll get some great ideas.
  • While you are waiting to pick up kids in the car--Read up! Read the paper, Chamber newsletter, or other local info.
  • Treat yourself like a big business.
  • Rely on experts. Take advantage of great local professionals: Accountants, Financial Planners, Attorneys, and Child-care experts!
  • Don't be shy about getting compensated appropriately for what you do. Remember that people associate price with quality and you are (as a service business) a quality product.
  • Don't apologize for that - no one wants the "cheapest" advice - they want the best advice.

Parent to Parent Tips:

Balancing Family Life

  • Don't fight change, just plan on rearranging your sleeping and waking schedule to ensure that you get quality time for you (i.e. working out, reading, correspondence etc.)
  • Force yourself to get into the habit of cleaning up, moving/folding laundry, preparing lunches, and planning breakfast every night, before you go to bed- The best advice I ever received!
  • Prepare extra food on Sundays to use during the week (i.e. chop veggies and large fruits and prepare storable meals).
  • Always have crackers or other snacks and water in the car. And Don't forget the baby wipes! (As well as disinfectant wipes, a rag, and an empty gallon size zip lock baggie!)
  • Utilize some of your lunch breaks at work to run errands (grocery shopping and post office), but also reserve some of them to refresh yourself (take a walk or eat with a friend).
  • As a working mom, you need to be good at multitasking and staying organized.
  • Try to make lunches the night before.
  • Lay out uniforms or pick out kids outfits the night before
  • Make sure to get kids to bed early enough that they get the sleep they need.
  • Work as a team with your spouse, Get yourselves ready first in the morning. Wake up kids so that they have enough time to eat, get ready and play a bit before you rush out the door to daycare and school.
  • Try to talk about something you will do together that night before you all go in different directions. That way, you start the day on a positive note and have something to look forward to at the end of the day.

MOM IN THE SPOTLIGHT-April 2009

(Site Photos) CarolCrist.jpg

Kidz of Kingman was founded by Carol Crist/Director and her family. Children are a huge priority in my life! Being an older mother of two small school age children, I can see things through the eyes of my children with the wisdom of my lifetime.
With our economy and the numerous amount of less fortunate children in our community growing; the need for our services is in high demand now more than ever.

Myself and my office assistant and Co-Director Bernadette Pilkington feel that our reward for the work that we do, is in making a difference in the lives of the children in our community.

Kidz of Kingman is dedicated to our town’s future! The children in our community! The kids of Kingman!

Kidz of Kingman was licensed 501 c 3 in 2007 has been doing wonderful things for the children in our community! We give the children the tools they need to succeed, when they need them.

Every day is unique and different with what we do to help the children in our community.

This can range from something as little as a birthday present for a less fortunate child, to putting a smile on an ill child’s face, or making Christmas merry for hundreds of Kingman’s children (as we were able to do this past Christmas)

We hold fundraisers and children’s events through out the year. We work directly with the schools, church’s, CPS and other local organizations in our community such as AZ Youth Partnership, Project Safe, McTupp, Mohavecountykids.com and many others.
